Moore Laughs

by Bill Dunn

When I was 15 years old my thoughts were a lot like Zak Moore’s, thinking about girls, school, parents, and girls. The difference being that while I would share my thoughts with my group of friends, Zak shares his with audiences in comedy clubs.

Click to enlargeLast Saturday night, on the stage at Hallenbecks in North Hollywood, in front of an intimate group of family and friends, Zak, or “The Zakman” as he likes to be called, was doing just that. With a stage presence that defies his years he deftly went on for forty minutes, a feat that many comedians twice his age are incapable of doing, garnering many laughs along the way. The night was a special one, being taped for a DVD to showcase his talents and he did not shrink under the pressure.

The amazing story of this young comedian began four years ago when at the tender age of 11 he took the stage at a local club, Big Daddy’s Road House, near his then home in Orlando Florida. Once he had cut his teeth in front of a live audience there was no stopping him. He began racking up performances around the country in clubs like Coconuts Comedy Club, The Ice House, The Comedy Spot, Hot Rod’s Café, Groucho’s and the Improv.

Not content with strictly doing live performances The Zakman has made stops along the way in radio and TV. He has shared his comedic gifts on The Jenny Jones Show, The Ricki Lake Show, The Daily Buzz, and BET’s “Coming To The Stage”. I’m sorry, did I mention that he was only 15 years old? Most comedians don’t have resumes like this in their entire careers and he has done it in a few scant years.

The Zakman and his parents Susan and Jerry, have since left Florida and relocated to Southern California where his mom now works at a law firm in Pasadena. Zak is attending Hollywood High where he continues to work on his comedic skills and other facets of the entertainment industry. He has his own web site http://www.zakmoore.com where he can be contacted for bookings when he, like other kids his age, is not on MySpace.com

So keep your eyes peeled because the young Zakman is on the fast track. If you get the opportunity to catch his act, don’t miss it. We can all always use Moore laughs.
